シダレザクラとは何らかの要因で枝が柔らかくなっているために、枝が下に垂れ下がっている桜の総称で、様々な種類のさくらで「枝垂れ」形態のものが存在します。

 

有名なのは野生種のエドヒガンで、普通は上に向かって伸びる枝が下に垂れ下がり独特の風情を生み出しています。

エドヒガンの花びらは5枚ですが、八重咲きのヤエシダレなどもあります。

また枝のしなり具合も様々で、柳の枝のように風になびいて大きく揺れるものもあります。

Weeping cherry blossoms are a general term for cherry blossoms whose branches have become soft for some reason, causing them to droop downwards, and there are various types of cherry blossoms that have a "weeping" shape.

A famous wild species is the Edohigan, whose branches that normally grow upwards droop downwards, creating a unique look.

Edohigan has five petals, but there are also double-flowered flowers such as Yaeshidare.

The branches also vary in how flexible they are, and some sway wildly in the wind, like willow branches.
