大島桜は花と葉が同時に咲き香りも強くソメイヨシノの原種の一つと言われています。
花は大輪、一重咲きで白色、葉も大きく、桜餅の葉はこの大島桜が使われています。
開花期は3月下旬。 伊豆七島や房総半島などに自生する潮風に強い桜です。

Oshima cherry blossoms bloom flowers with a strong fragrance at the same time as leaves, and are said to be one of the original species of Someiyoshino cherry trees. The flowers are large, single, white, and the leaves are large, and the Oshima cherry tree is used for the leaves of Sakuramochi. The flowering period is late March. It is a cherry tree that is resistant to sea breeze and grows naturally in the Izu Seven Islands and the Boso Peninsula.
