ヤマザクラ（山桜）はバラ科サクラ属でソメイヨシノと同じサクラの一種です。 日本固有種で、学名は Cerasus jamasakura。山地に自生する野生のサクラで、ヤマザクラとよばれるものは約10種あるといわれていて、これらのヤマザクラの品種を総称してヤマザクラと呼びます。ただし山地でみかける野生の桜を一般的に山桜とよぶこともあり、山桜という定義は結構曖昧なところがあります。

Yamazakura (wild cherry tree) belongs to the Rosaceae family, and is a type of cherry tree similar to Someiyoshino. A species endemic to Japan, its scientific name is Cerasus jamasakura. It is said that there are about 10 types of wild cherry blossoms called Yamazakura that grow naturally in the mountains, and these varieties are collectively called Yamazakura.
However, the definition of wild cherry blossoms is quite ambiguous, as wild cherry blossoms that can be found in mountains are generally called wild cherry blossoms.
